Introduction to Climate Smart Agriculture
Climate smart agriculture is an approach to sustainable farming that aims to increase productivity and resilience while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change. A curriculum on climate smart agriculture should provide learners with knowledge and skills on how to implement climate smart agriculture practices.
FBSC Food & Nutrition Education Program Introduction
The Foundation for Building Sustainable Communities (FBSC) is committed to empowering communities through sustainable agricultural practices that promote food security and climate resilience. Our Food & Nutrition Education Program is rooted in the principles of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) framework. Through the development of our Climate-Smart Victory Garden Education Enterprise, we embrace the three core pillars of CSA:
- Sustainably increasing agricultural productivity and incomes
- Adapting and building resilience to climate change
- Reducing or removing greenhouse gas emissions where possible
The FBSC Climate-Smart Victory Garden curriculum exemplifies these pillars by integrating strategies such as soil health improvement, water conservation, and sustainable gardening techniques. Participants learn practical, eco-friendly methods that not only boost productivity but also contribute to climate adaptation and emission reduction. By addressing common challenges in community gardening and offering innovative solutions, the program fosters strong, resilient communities while promoting environmental stewardship and local food production.
Through this comprehensive approach, the FBSC Food & Nutrition Education Program not only equips individuals with the knowledge and tools to grow their own food sustainably but also supports broader community efforts in combating climate change.
