Celebrating Engineering Month
The 3rd Annual DIY Showcase recognizes youth in engineering, who have designed projects in Durham Region
What is Engineering month?
March is the month where we celebrate engineering. In Canada, there are numerous events taking place across the country. Engineering month is a way to highlight the designs of students and to encourage others to explore it as an option for a career.
At the Foundation for Building Sustainable Communities (FBSC) we celebrate the human potential for creative thinking, who are passionate about designing, innovating and making, and especially those with ‘do it yourself’ attitude.
From designing malls, communication technologies, airplanes or household appliances, engineers are constantly thinking, desiging and making life more efficient which can give us more time for social activities. Because these designs are all around us, we are celebrating engineering at the DIY 2016 Showcase giving attendees the opportunity to ask questions which can help students improve their designs
According to National Engineering Month
‘Engineers shape our future with forward thinking designs, new technologies and breakthrough developments that haven’t been thought up yet. They prove, each and every day, that anything’s possible.’
National Engineering Month also gives students the opportunity to learn about the remarkable accomplishments Canada’s engineers have made over the years. Be sure to check out this site’s Great Canadian Engineering section to learn things like how engineering work pushes the boundaries of flight and contributes to amazing manmade structures, and the Engineers in Profile section to meet incredible engineers who have been conducting important work like allowing amputees to control their artificial limbs with ease and building earthquake resistant structures.
