You are invited!
This 4th Annual Do It Yourself (DIY) Showcase continues to be support to this worldwide movement, where imaginative people in community dialogue and demonstrates their invention, or tinkering creations.
If you are curious, full of wonder, or just want to connect with the do it yourselfers, then come join us for the DIY Showcase.
The DIY / MAKER movement, is growing, and that’s mainly because people love to make things. They make anything from toys, to furniture, to knitting, to pens, to cooking, to gardening. it’s our expression of our own skills or drive to create. They are everywhere in our community.
We continue to focus on the individual maker, do it yourselfer, however, in celebration of the 150th Anniversary for Canada, and the 200th Year for the Simcoe Street United Church, the theme is ‘Then & Now’, which we feel acknowledges the Canadian silent attitude of perseverance and tenacity.
The theme also gives an insight, or at least to engage in dialogue, of how much we have done in communities across the world. One very important factor is the recognition that Oshawa was known as the Manchester of Canada, a hub of innovation.
Among the displays, attendees will:
Identify old utensils displayed by Victory Garden, as well as hearing about the solution for power generation and agriculture education;
Robert T. Bell, a volunteer for the Victory Garden, and a Simcoe Street Church member will display various technologies/information of historical and curiousity significance;
Participate in workshops, and
Meet the inventors, tinkers and entrepreneurs in the community.
The day is designed to be fun for the whole family. Come and join us and see for yourself
